Once a learned pundit came to the king Akbar’s court. He claimed to know many different languages. He showed his skill by speaking various languages very fluently. Then he challanged the courtiers including Akbar to tell his mother tongue, but no courtier could identify. Finally the task was entrusted to Birbal, the Akbar’s minister. Birbal ask to give one day.
At night when the pundit was sleeping, Birbal went to his room and teased in his ear. The pundit immidiately woke up in angry mood. He shouted at Birbal in a particular language. Birbal smiled and said “So my friend, you are a Tamilian (a resident of Tamilnadu state of India)?” The pundit admit that his native language is Tamil.
Moral: There is always more skillful people above you. Do not ever claim to be Single in a particular skill.
Once a man and his son, sitting on a horse, were returning from their farms. On the way someone saw them and said “Why are riding both of you on a poor horse. Dont you see the horse cannot walk properly?” The man got off to the horse and start walking. After walking just a mile away, an another man surprised to see the son sitting on the horse where as the man walking. He said to the son ” you fool, dont you ashamed that you are young but even then you are on horse and your father is walking.” The son at once got off to the horse and the man got on.
After covering a short distance, they met to an another man. He shocked to saw man on horse and the son walking. ”Is this not your own son that you yourself is riding while your poor son is walking?” the man asked. The man immidiately got off to the horse. Both walking with their horse reached to the village. The villagers laughed to see them. One of the villagers asked “What is the purpose of keeping horse with you when you are not riding it. Why dont you sit on the horse?” Hearing that the man and his son smiled and went forward.
Moral: People always ready to suggest you for doing a job, but use your head and finish the work in your own way.
Have you seen a lamp lighting in the night. It enlightens the area surrounding it but there is darkness below it. It can make others able to see in the darkness but cannot be useful for itself where it is placed.
Moral: Do your DUTY sincerely without caring your personal interest. It is not neccesary that a person’s job may be equally useful for him/herself as for others.
Once two man, a farmer and his neighbour were fighting on an issue relating to the well and its water. The case was sent to the court of Akbar, the king. The farmer said “Sir, yesterday he sold his well to me. Today morning when my wife went to take water from the well, he asked to pay for the water. He says that he has sold the well only not the water of it.” After hearing the problem, Akbar asked his minister Birbal to solve the issue.
Birbal asked the former owner of the well “You have sold your well to him but for keeping water in the well you have to pay him rent or you must take out all of the water at once.” The neighbour was caught in his own trick. He applogised for that. The king also fined him for consuming the time of the court.
Moral: If you do not give the right share to the people, one day you have to pay more than their fare share.
There is one very famous story from Indian mythology. Once the elephant of Vishnu (the Indian god) caught by a crocodile when it gone to the river to drink water. It cried for help. Vishnu heard its agonised cry and besides having millions of servants, he at once rushed to the river to rescue his elephant. He killed the crocodile and saved the elephant.
Moral: Your employees are first human being and only later they are human resource.
Once a washerman was crying very deeply outside his house. The act of his cry was showing that some dearone has left him. A passerby passed from there and asked the reason for his grief. The washerman said “Sukhnandan has dead.” Hearing that the passerby also began to weep. Crying in grief he came to his home. His wife asked him that why he was crying. The man told her that Sukhnandan has dead. His wife also began to cry. The neighbours herd the noise from the house. They asked the reason and knowing that the Sukhnandan has dead they also start crying with them. Gradually this chain spread all over the kingdom and finally reached to the king. The king also start crying. He consider his sincere duty to send this message to the queen also and sent to the queen that sukhnandan has dead.
The queen recieved the message and asked “Who was Sukhnandan?” The messanger showed his ignorance regarding this. The queen than returned the messanger back to the king asking about Sukhnandan. The king also didn’t know who was Sukhnandan. He then ordered his minister to collect information about that. The minister sent his soldiers in search of this news source of origin. The soldiers found out that who was Sukhnandan. They told it to minister and the minister told the king ” Maharaj, Sukhandan was the washerman’s donkey who has dead today morning.” The king ashamed on himself and anounced about that all over the territory.
Moral: Do not react quickly without knowing the pros and cons of the matter. Do search before starting work on any project and after getting the full available information start working on it.
Once a merchant dreamt that he lost all of his money. He asked the atrologer to interpret his dream. The astrologer said “It means that all of your relatives will die before you.” The merchant went sad. He didn’t care much about his business and always sat in grief.
His wife was very clever. He took him to one of her known Pandit and asked him to interpret his husband’s dream. The merchant told the Pandit about his nightmare. After thinking a while the Pandit said “Sir, It is a good dream for you. It means that you will live longer than any of your relatives.” Now the merchant was happy and he gave a handsome money to Pandit.
Moral: Say what you want, but in a way that must not be inconevinent for you or any one else around you. Your words must be sugarcoating to soften a bitter truth.
A saint was very famous for his discourses. He always sit in meditation near a river in a village. One day he saw a woman coming towards the river. He approched her and asked who are you and where are you going. She said that she is going across the river to give her husband the lunch for the day. The saint said “Why dont you come to me I will learn many unusual things that no one can do”. She asked him to show his “unusual talent”.
The saint laughed and said that you fool I can walk on the water of river and cross it easily. The women asked him to do so and the saint followed his saying. He started walking on the river water and cross the river. When he came back he approached the woman and said “Have you looked, what unique things I can do? I have achieved all this over years by crossing difficult situations”. The woman said ”Maharaj (a sign of respect for religious saints) You have a great talent but your talent’s cost is very less which I give daily to the boatman for crossing the river.” And she went to the river bank to hire a boat.
Moral: No need to pay attention to least valuable things. Set your priorities and work towards them.
Once a child forgot his tiffin for the school. His mother went to the school to give the lunch box he forgot. She gave it to aaya (the maidservant of school) to handover the box to her son. The maidservant asked for his identity. The mother said “He is in 3rd standard and is the most cute boy of the class.” The maid took the tiffin and went to the class of 3rd standard. She look for the boy and gave the tiffin to a student.
At the off, of school the mother queried aaya that to whom she gave the tiffin. The aaya replied “you asked to give it to cutest boy of the class. So I gave it to my grandson.”
Moral: Everyone is special and may have unique quality. So treat each employee as a unique entity.
Once a manager want to test the sense of understanding of their workers. He called all of his employees of unit at one place and asked to prove their intelligence. He kept a covered pot in front of the employees and said “There is a pot in front of you. Your task is to tell what is kept in side the pot.” All of the employees tried to sort out the asked trick. But they could not reach at possible solution.
Suddenly, an employee come forward, uncovered the pot and said “It is empty”. All of the employees began to laugh thinking that he is a stupid. But the manager said that he is a wise person. I asked you to tell the thing inside the pot but didn’t say that you could not open it.
Moral: Dont assume obstacles that dont exist. Take the things in same form as them come to you.
